Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o will star in an upcoming buddy movie based on a tweet. Yes, you read that right – it’s an Internet dream come true.
After lengthy negotiation process at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has secured the film project, bidding out other suitors. Ava DuVernay, director of Oscar-winning Selma and Disney-produced A Wrinkle in Time will be directing the movie, while Issa Rae, writer of Insecure, will be writing the screenplay.
The idea for the movie surfaced around Tumblr and Twitter featuring a picture of Rihanna and Nyong’o at the 2014 Miu Miu fashion show. The two women were described as heist buddies.
