Another migraine coming your way? A new study has discovered the reason women get more migraines than men.
A research published today by Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences found that sex hormones might be responsible in incurring more migraines in women. Scientists at the Universitas Miguel Hernández in Elche, Spain found that certain hormones – such as testosterone – protect against migraine, while others – such as prolactin and estrogen, which are higher in women – can increase its intensity.
The preliminary findings from the research suggests that estrogen and changes in its level could make it easier to migraine attack, but more human-based studies are needed.
